Is a Memory Foam Mattress Pad Worth It?

Is a Memory Foam Mattress Pad Worth It?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=J._Conrad]J. Conrad

We've talked a little bit about memory foam in our discussion on visco elastic. As we discussed there, it is basically just polyurethane with a couple of additives to boost it's density and viscosity. The result is a foam that is firm, but gives when weight is applied. If you have sat on an airplane, or squeezed the headrest in a recent-model car, you have felt what memory foam feels like. It is a material that is unlike most others and has a feeling that is hard to describe. But, those who sleep on it each night swear by its ability to conform to the body, decrease tossing and turning, and promote an overall better night's sleep.

So, if foam is so great, and people enjoy sleeping on it so much, then why is there a market for memory foam mattress pads, and why are you reading this post? Well, as I'm sure you may know, this stuff is expensive. Originally designed by NASA for airplane seats, this material actually only became available to the public market in the early 1980s, and only actually became affordable to the public sector about ten years later. Beginning in the early 1990s, the market for memory foam began to boom. Manufacturers of everything from mattresses, to seat cushions, to pool floats began experimenting with this material to see if they could create better products. Unfortunately, though the material became available, and less cost prohibitive, it has remained to this day very expensive.

Now, that may have been a long winded introduction, but the real reason a market for a memory foam mattress pad topper emerged is because the cost of making an entire mattress out of the stuff is still quite expensive. These sell for well over $1,000 and can approach prices of $3,000 and more. The benefits, as mentioned above, have long been touted by admirers. Users claim to sleep through the night with ease after switching to memory foam due to a number of reasons. The foam is engineered in such a way that it gives according to how much pressure is applied, and it only gives in the one local area. So, the mattress will sink in more where your hips rest than your feet because the mid-section of you body is much heavier. This allows the sleeper to attain a body position that is more natural that other mattresses allow, or so say the proponents.

But can an isotonic memory foam mattress pad offer the same benefits as a full scale mattress. You may not think so, but studies have shown that these pads can indeed nearly duplicate the effect of having a memory foam mattress, simply by being placed upon a standard mattress. Not bad, right? When you look at the price differential -- a queen memory foam mattress pad, for instance, will cost around $200, the argument becomes very intriguing.

The big thing to look out for is the thickness of the memory foam mattress topper pad that you're buying. There are several companies out there offering 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick pads for sale, attempting to simply cash in on the hype and popularity that memory foam has enjoyed in recent years. These often go for prices that look phenomenal, but beware. You'll see almost no benefit from a pad of this thickness. To truly reap the benefits of one of these pads, you need at least an inch in width. After all, the whole purpose of this material is to allow your body ample room to inflict it's will, so to speak, on the surface below. You simply won't get this effect with a pad that is too thin.

My experience with memory foam has been a great one. I don't yet have a full on memory foam mattress, but I suspect that it will come not too far down the road, as I have greatly enjoyed the mattress pad that I have been sleeping on for the last several months. And I don't have a particularly nice mattress, mind you. I have a rather common Sealy, which is nice, but by no means spectacular. I came across the memory foam pads sort of by accident. I have had my mattress for about two years, but it wasn't until several months ago that I began waking up with shoulder pains. Knowing that I couldn't afford to simply replace the mattress, I decided to see if a modification of some kind might do the trick. I'm happy to say that augmenting my insufficient mattress with one of these pads did the trick in a big way. I now wake up feeling great, and can honestly say that I owe it all to making this switch. Buying one of these pads was a great way to test-drive memory foam, so to speak, without buying an expensive new mattress. But with the way I feel about it at this point, it may not be long before I bite the bullet. So, Is a memory foam mattress pad worth it? Absolutely.

J. Conrad has helped thousands of people [http://www.sleepybedtime.com/]sleep better, and is a big advocate of the [http://www.sleepybedtime.com/memory-foam-mattress-pad/37/]memory foam mattress pad. As a product that can significantly improve sleep quality, it should be considered by all.

Mattress Reviews - Simmons Vs Sealy Vs Serta Mattress

Mattress Reviews - Simmons Vs Sealy Vs Serta Mattress

We cannot say for certain which between Simmons, Sealy and Serta is the better mattress. I cannot speak for you on what can bring you more comfort when you are sleeping. In fact, it is difficult to find a mattress that provides all the things we need.

However, to answer the question "which is a better choice", I would have to say Sealy. Mind that I have only arrived to this conclusion due to the lesser complaints thrown at this company and the higher satisfaction rating they have received. When one is comparing, one should look at the bigger picture.

There really is not that much of a difference. Only that, each have a specific attribute that they excel on. For instance, Simmons offers better spring beds with their beautyrest line. Sealy offers better memory foam and latex technology with their posturepedic line. Serta is just in between.

What you might want to consider is what mattress can provide you with the comfort you are looking for. If you cannot personally test the bed or sleep on top of it for a few minutes, read reviews. This would be a bigger risk since you are not personally testing the mattress out, only taking into consideration the opinions of other people who have closely the same preferences as you are. Remind yourself that comfort is relative.

As for the other essential mattress pointers, Sealy is leading the race. For one thing, there is almost a unanimous agreement that this company has the best customer service. We all know how difficult it is to complain about your purchase once you have already sealed it. It is easier to buy something than return it when it proves to be a useless pile of foams.

According to some people, Serta has the worst customer service saying that their representatives will have to ask how severe the damage is to the mattress. If the bed is not damaged enough to their estimation, you will have to pay for some service charge to get someone to fix it for you. Also, the return delivery charge falls on the shoulder of the consumer. If you happen to have bought a heavy beds, you will have to spend more on shipping.

I am not an expert in consumer guides but I know for a fact that it is better to choose a reliable company that will not lead you to a merry chase when it comes to its warranty. This is probably why Sealy has been putting the others in the shade for quite some time now. They place the interest of their consumers first above everything else to make certain that they will come back and buy again from them. That is the whole logic of the over-all satisfaction rating. When more consumers are satisfied, more will recommend it and more will keep on coming back.

So in general, you have to test the comfort of the mattress first and get to know more about the reputation of the mattress brand before giving your plastic and have them charge you with thousands of dollars.

Coleman Air Mattress - Choose Supreme Comfort

Coleman Air Mattress - Choose Supreme Comfort
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Janet_Chua]Janet Chua

If I say comfortable, high quality air mattress, what first comes into your mind? For many people, the answer is a Coleman air mattress! Their company is synonymous to guaranteed comfort and durability. Established 100 years back, the company is founded by W.C. Coleman, a young businessman of 26. Since the company was built and the first air bed was released in the market, the demand for their superb quality products never ceased to grow. This company boasts of airtight, relaxing and comfortable mattresses with great designs.

For some, a mattress is just a mat or a pad where they can rest or sleep. Some think of a sleeping bag made of different materials such as natural fabrics, water or cotton. How sad, because mattresses are supposed to be equipped with the technology so that it's user can get 100% comfort! Air mattresses have gone a long way since the 1980s. Instead of incorporating materials such as cotton or wool, the manufacturers decided that the way to great comfort lies in utilizing one of the best and most available natural resource - air. Since these beds are made of air, they are so versatile and portable - they can be inflated when you need it, and just as easily deflate it so that it will be ready for next use. Air beds are made of textile reinforced rubber or plastic, or plastic.

One of the great benefits of having a Coleman air mattress is that you can easily adjust and maintain the air pressure and the level of firmness you desire at the push of a button. It's that simple. For those couples who don't want to compromise their individual sleeping comfort, there are mattresses that have separate chambers with dual controls that allow each user to regulate the degree of firmness according to their preferred level of comfort.

Modern air beds can have a permanent spot in your bedroom, as most of them are designed to be as comfortable as your standard bed, and high quality ones such as Coleman air mattresses offer more. Other people buy a spare mattress that they can easily inflate whenever unexpected guests come to visit and stay for the night. Some who lead very active lives consider an air bed a necessity, as having an air mattress is a constant thing that would make them feel right at home. Air beds are especially popular to camping enthusiasts. These beds are lightweight and easy to carry, portable and compact enough to store in any small space. They are also extremely tough and can withstand the elements. Just make sure that you keep your mattress away from any rough or abrasive surface by placing a thick blanket or any protective covering between the bed and the ground; if you are camping out. If you want your mattress to last you for years, stay away from objects that can damage or puncture its surface such as sharp camping tools or rocks. The great thing about purchasing from a quality brand is that they include a patch kit for easy maintenance.

Which Mattress - Sealy Posturepedic, Simmons Beautyrest Or Serta Perfect Sleeper?

Which Mattress - Sealy Posturepedic, Simmons Beautyrest Or Serta Perfect Sleeper?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Zach_Smith]Zach Smith

Most of the mattress retail stores today carry mattresses from Sealy, Simmons and Serta. Each mattress brand has their own specific mattress product they are most proud of. There is the Sealy posturepedic line, the Beautyrest line from Simmons and the Perfect Sleep from Serta. So which one is really better?

Basically, these three are good brands. However, we can also say that nothing is ever absolute in the mattress industry. A good and reputable brand can still fail you. Some lesser known brands can wow you and vice versa. That basically depends on your comfort needs. Sometimes too, it relies on the manufacturing methods of the company as this will decide whether their mattresses are reliable or not.

If you are after the total package, comfort, support and durability, we will find out if these brands can really provide those benefits you have been looking for.

Sealy Posturepedic
This line can offer you various levels of firmness for your ultimate needs. If you have a need for a plush mattress, they have such a mattress for you, if you want a firmer mattress, they can also provide that for you. You have a lot of options to choose from.

Basically, this mattress line aims of making 4 hours of sleep feel like 6 or 8 hours. Most consumers like the products from Sealy with them saying this is the most comfortable mattress they have ever had. One plus point for Sealy is their customer service. They have quite a reliable customer service compared to other companies.

Simmons Beautyrest
This one also offers a wide range of mattress choices. But unlike Sealy that mostly provides foam mattresses, Simmons concentrate mostly on innerspring mattresses as this is their area of expertise. They have just combined this with visco foam technology for those who want a firmer support to their body.

Simmons is a good choice if you want to combine plush comfort with firm comfort. They have received some bad feedbacks mainly on mattress sagging. But since they offer a good warranty service, you can make the most out of your purchase.

Serta Perfect Sleeper
This mattress line is a good choice for back ache sufferers too. This can be considered highly reliable because even Consumers Digest has deemed this a reliable brand. Most of those who have used this like how comfortable it is. Some just reported bad customer service for this company. But otherwise, their products are worth buying.
